DAY 24 WITH THE SON

I'm taking the 40 days leading up the Christmas to focus on the life of Jesus and do a mini-reflection and devotion. I'm following along with Liza on her special blog called 40 Days with the Son, based on the Max Lucado book 3:16.

Here is how to join us in reflection of the spirit of this upcoming holiday season.

JESUS MINDS HIS MIND: "Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed." Luke 5:16

I've been taught several times that Jesus actions modeled the behavior we as Christians should try to live out. There are several references in the new testament to Jesus seeking solitude to pray and meditate. I know that I *should* be doing my quiet time, praying everyday and meditating every day. But honestly, it just doesn't happen. I wish I could say I was as devoted to following God as I was to blogging or checking my email or even working out.

I think the devotional message presses a good point- that we are go guard our hearts regarding what outside influences we let sway our thoughts. Over the past few years, I've become much more sensitive to negative messages that I am exposed to on the television or radio or through friends. It's so much easier to just avoid negativity and hatred and sinful behaviors than try to fight against their subconscious influence once they have penetrated your thoughts. I find that I am much happier, more God-centered, more positive and content when I surround myself with positive, uplifting things rather than so many of the negative, dark cultural messages.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: We're off to play Santa Clause and bring Christmas to some very deserving little boys!

Oh...this is my favorite thing to do .. withdraw from the busyness of this world and have a quite time with God, praying.

Unfortunately, there are always a lot of distractions ... it's not easy to do it, but we must and we should.

It's interesting how it was written that Jesus withdrew to LONELY PLACES. .. I guess quite places seems to be lonely places in this world....
