Silly Sleepers

My "futon" couch is out for re-covering since it shrank when I washed it. I just threw all the pillows and blankets back up on the futon frame. Mia is determined to sleep up there & just makes herself comfy.

Unfortunately, I needed my running shoes back.

But she made herself another spot on the pillow pile.

The other funny thing is that Mia will plop down in the middle of this bed, not leaving enough room for Zoe.

Zoe will lay on the floor and stare at her. Sometimes I'll shove Mia off to the side & make room for Zoe, but I wish she'd just do it on her own

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: 62! It was 62 degrees this morning & just wonderful for a jog. I'm loving this early fall weather- we even ate dinner outside last night.

Birthday Cake

Gathered back around the island at home to do cake.

Mom in charge!

I'm amazed that even 1 of the 4 guys is singing the Happy Birthday song.

Happy birthday to Haley!

Can you tell all the guys are into sports?

She later told us the party was a success because 1) everybody had fun and 2) there was no drama.

Ok, really that's enough singing!

The teenage girls were quite intense as they waited for their cake.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Tuesdays are starting to rank up there with Fridays since it's the only day I don't have something going on at night.

Birthday Games

The party continued when we arrived at Dave & Buster's with 18 teenagers! The girls headed straight for the car racing.

This kid's parents need to watch him if they ever go to Vegas!

Most of the rest of the guys headed for the hoops.

So easily enticed for pretty jewelry.

It's really freaking dark in there.

And I don't like using my flash...

This is one of Haley's best friends since before she was born.

My brother hung out with a few of Haley's guy friends.

I'm still fascinated that people spend $100 to get paper tickets they trade in for a stuffed animal. Most of the kids went for candy though.

The only posed shot of the kids for the night- this was her pal in the street football game.

H joined us after work & the adults mostly sat at the bar eating and drinking and hoping somebody would play the trivia game in front of us.

H shot a few hoops & then I spotted the Whack-a-Mole game on the way out & finally gave into the game-madness. I'm happy I did because I beat hubby!

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Found a puppy sitter for this weekend when we are out of town....looks like some teenagers will have their hands full!

Birthday Gathering

Friday night was the big birthday bash for Haley's 14th birthday, which happens to be today. Quite the long event, it will require 3 separate blog posts. The party started out like most of the rest- at the house, hanging out in the kitchen, leaning on the bar, snacking on food.

Everybody tried to act cool for a few minutes & then the inner-kids broke out and they made a beeline for the games. The trampoline was the carrot that drew them outside.

They waited for their turn, but were still entertained.

The rest migrated over to the ping pong table.

Did you know this table is like 20+ years old? I remember my dad playing (beating) me on it during commercial breaks. It's been refinished with the finest plywood & fancy green spray paint.

These two were too cool for school & just watched the games and waited for their next text message.

Within about five minutes, the guys headed out to the front yard with a football. Several of them were late because they'd just go out of football practice.

Haley & one other girl were up for the challenge.

Reminder to self- don't park car on the street at the next party. (No, that's not my car, but I do usually park right there.)

And boys won't be boys without a wipe-out.

My sister invited 5 guys & 11 girls (plus my brother). I swear there is another girl out there playing football with her...see the extra legs?

They played just long enough to get the boys all sweaty & smelly again, and for Haley to need a quick run up to her room to fix her hair.

The pizzas arrived & then we were off to Dave & Busters...

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: I can see the light at the end of the tunnel...just hope it's not the train!

Birds in the Field

I took these photos about a week ago & it was the first time the girls had been back to the field/bayou since Zoe had been sick.

She's able to keep up with Zoe for a little bit longer in the field, but this only means that Zoe runs farther to get away from her ;)

Mia has great hearing. Anytime she hears a strange or unusual noise, she will stop and listen. She is always watching the airplanes that fly over our house.

This is the sound she was hearing at the park- tons of birds!

We've had our first cool front of fall & the weather was awesome last week! Finally not hot!

I can really see how Mia is growing and getting bigger.

But she's still all ears...

Quite a lovely pose.

She was staring at more birds that were sitting on a fence.

Photos taken September 18, 2009, Mia ~3 months old

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Shopping and more football today.

Art Car

I was working on a project for my dad last month on one of the houses he built & I came across some old photos that I'd never posted of an "art car". I was just driving around town & I saw this beauty and had to stop for a closer look.

The Dr. Pepper "tree" on top is truly the icing on the cake of this design.

Shredded aluminum can grass adds a stunning touch.

Where does one even find Tab cans these days for some styling rims.

I keep intending to get down to the annual Art Car Parade here in Houston.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: A relaxing Saturday where I hope to get caught up around the house & at work, then the big UH - Tech game tonight. Go Cougs!
