DAY 18 WITH THE SON

I'm taking the 40 days leading up the Christmas to focus on the life of Jesus and do a mini-reflection and devotion. I'm following along with Liza on her special blog called 40 Days with the Son, based on the Max Lucado book 3:16.

Here is how to join us in reflection of the spirit of this upcoming holiday season.

THE GOD-MAN JESUS: "What kind of man is this?" Matthew 8:27

The devotional makes a great point about how God didn't send Jesus to Earth as a God-figure . He sent Jesus to Earth as a man so that we could recognize Him. If Jesus came as a God-figure, we wouldn't be able to look at Him and know that He experienced all the same pain and suffering that we as humans do. Because He choose to come as a mortal man among us, God wants us to be able to relate to him & consider Jesus as a personal friend, with whom we develop a lasting relationship.

The question posed by Peter to Jesus is yet another reminder that the disciples just didn't get it. Before them stood the most amazing man ever to walk the earth, performing miracles for them to witness daily and blowing their mind with great teaching and parables. It still didn't click in their mind that he WAS the Savior that the old testament promised. It makes our current situation all the more ironic that we have all the teaching and lessons of the disciples, and we still don't get it either. How God has promised us the richest life in heaven and eternal salvation if we will just follow him and believe. It's hard to imagine anybody would refuse this offer, but millions of people still reject the invitation.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: My mom & step-dad went to church with us this morning! I am SOOOOOO excited and happy about this.
