Tuesday I headed to Lake Charles, Louisiana for a short day trip. After driving through some very back-roads for our inspection, we returned to LC in time for a late lunch. Steamboat Bill's was our destination, just across the freeway from the Lake and all the casinos. I wasn't too impressed with the food (I blame an ordering error on my part...), but my boss was raving about his etoufee.
I was surprised at how much "industry" was booming in LC, with plants, factories and pipes EVERYWHERE.
I think this might just qualify as THE smallest airport, I've EVER flown out of. It is a temporary building, and a new terminal should be built in 2009 after the original one was damaged by Hurricane Rita.
The baggage claim is outside...heehee. The windows on the right are check-in, the middle set of windows is security, and the left set is the 'gate' area.
Another sort of interesting thing about this area and airport, is that it's near a military base and also a main drop point for oil-rig workers in the Gulf. I counted at least 20 helicopters on the ground and various ones in the air, on practice or training missions to retrieve workers from the platforms.
The guy just totally cracked me up. It's not often that you see old, white men working on the ground crew. Well, this guy just decided to take a break and sit down while waiting to remove the rolling staircase.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Cajun food is yum-yum!
