CALIFORNIA COAST

This week's Tuesday Travels is a flashback to our California Coast vacation in October 2006. Above is the Queen Mary, which is now retired and is a great place for parties, haunted ship tours and WEDDINGS! We attended a very cool wedding for my friend Ashley, who I went to college in Georgia with years ago. The boat gave the wedding an amazing, classy, historical feel and was perfect!
The next day we headed up the Pacific Coast Highway- stopping at every sight worth seeing. Our first attraction was Venice Beach, which fascinated me with the open-air gyms and people everywhere randomly involved in sports from boxing to yoga to running to rollerblading. Hubby had to have a cheesy pose in front of the Governor's old gym.

Just a few more minutes on the road brought us to the Santa Monica Pier. Though too early in the morning on a Saturday to be in full swing, we had a great time people watching and seeing the carnival, which I'm sure is a blast at night. I WISH we had such cool things like this in Houston.
After driving through the gorgeous homes in the Pacific Palisades and Malibu, we stopped at the gorgeous Point Mugu just South of Oxnard. This was our first taste of the beautiful, rocky and awesome California Coastline.

So I'm embarrassed to say we we even went to Channel Island National Park because we made a shamefully short stop that did not do justice to the amazing park. People make a whole vacation out of going to the islands, camping, kayaking, diving and learning. We did stop in the visitor's center long enough to climb to the top of the tower for a fabulous view and we checked out their cool learning center that had the coolest bright pink starfish. We will HAVE to come back for a full vacation to Channel Islands.
Then we were off to Santa Barbara!

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Only 4 days of work this week!
