Friday night we had an unusually good time in Houston at the Museum of Natural Science's Mixers & Elixers night. Every Friday during the summer, the museum brings in a live band into the main dinosaur exhibit hall. Throw in a few snacks and $4 glasses of wine for a jolly good time. Earlier this summer we saw one of our favorite band's, Mango Punch, and this past Friday we caught another Latin band.
Admission gets you one free IMAX movie too. Friday we saw Wild Safari 3D and a few months ago we watched a great show called Hurricane on the Bayou. To the rhythm of some authentic Cajun music, we learned about the human ecological damage before Hurricane Katrina and how much of Louisiana's natural barrier had been destroyed. I haven't been to a 3D movie since I was about 10 in Disney World, but it was actually pretty impressive. Even the sophisticated glasses were entertaining.
We met up with some friends, who were out-of-this world salsa dancers. It's so fun to watch the intricate steps of the feet and sexy swirls of the hips. We even recognized quite a few people from our days of taking lessons at SSQQ. We're almost motivated to find time in our busy schedule to return to lessons, so maybe next summer we won't be too embarrassed to dance.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Next weekend is a long weekend!
