ALLUVIAL FAN

After our big hike, we had a big appetite. So after a quick shower, I decided to drag poor H to yet another scenic view of the park. I insisted that we needed to see the Alluvial Fan that night because we were going to other direction in the park in the morning. After much grumbling...

We arrived at the Alluvial Fan just in time for some great evening light. The history of the valley includes death, disaster and destruction. Read about the damn collapse and how the entire town of Estes Park was flooded in 1982. The raging waters sent rocks and boulders downstream at warp speed and deposited them in the valley in the shape of a fan. Rocks, boulders, pebbles, stones and gravel as far as the eye could see.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Something beautiful was created from this tragdey.
