Warning dear blog readers- there are some slightly graphic photos of Zoe's stitches, so if that might gross you out, please come back tomorrow. You can read about Zoe's Mast Cell Tumors here. I was out of town the day the performed the surgery, so she stayed over night with the vet's office. Apparently they discovered Thursday morning that she had chewed through some of her original stitches and they had to re-do them! :(
So when we brought her home, we tried to keep her very wrapped up and her wounds covered so she wouldn't bother them. You can see where they shaved her for the IV and her earlier heart work-up.
This e-collar only lasted about 2 minutes because it was too big, and the yellow bandage lasted about 2 days before it fell (was chewed) off.
There were actually 2 separate cuts. The larger, upper one to get the two MCT's, and then the other one on her knee cap for that MCT. Her skin is all bruised and swollen and pouchy....makes me more upset than it does her!
By Sunday though, she was back to her usual playful self, just with a minor war-wound. We played with the kong in the backyard and she was running just fine. Monday night however, we started noticing some minor bleeding around a few places on her leg, so it looks like she started messing with her stitches again. We didn't know what else to do, so we cut leg-holes into a pillow case and wrapped her up! Pictures to come ;)
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Going to the one & only, world famous Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo tonight to see Rascal Flatts!!

awww poor zoe!! glad to hear she is feeling well enough to chew her stitches! poor girl...could your vet give you a smaller e-collar?
Poor Zoe!!!! But I am so glad that she's feeling better and is back to her playful self!!
Zoe you survived! Glad to see you are back in action girl. Sorry about the war wounds but just imagine the stories you get to tell at the dog park! You really do need to leave those stitches alone or your hair will grow back all funny. Your mom might be able to pick up a better fitting satilite dish at PetSmart. I've seen them there. I know ....they suck but it's only short term. Mom & Dad had to take mine off so I'd do my business but then they'd put it back on if they couldn't supervise me. Maybe while you're recovering your mom could read up the some of the yummy raw snacks to give you. That might take your mind off things!
Get better soon.

oh Zoe ... so sorry she has to go through surgery. I hope she gets well, very well soon.
Oh poor Zoe! :(
Why didn't they have a collar on her on Thurs. night so that she wouldn't be able to get to her stitches?
Our "kids" hate the collars (we call them lampshades), but it's the only thing that keeps them from getting to the spot where they're not supposed to get to. :-)
Hope she's all better soon!
Poor Zoe! What a trooper!
we're thinking of ya girl
Those e-collars are the only thing that work when our two boy Vs have an injury. I keep one of their old collars permanently in the e-collar loops so they can't slip out of it and put duct-tape up the big seam so it can't pull apart and be easier to slip out of. Those will be cool scars later... and boy vizslas love scars.
Hope you heal quickly.
