On the last morning & our last game drive, we received report of a mother lion and her cubs. Another group had tracked them down to the river bed. Since mother animals with babies can be very protective and dangerous, we stayed on our riverbank.
I made good use of my super-zoom & waited for the lions to peek out from behind the bushes. This particular female lion had been "collared" so the scientists could study her movements.
There were 2 little cubs, but they mostly stayed behind their momma and behind the bush. This little guy was a bit curious about us & came over our way to check us out.
He was too cute- he stayed a while & then decided we weren't very interesting & went back to his nap.
While at Lion Sands, we were fed 7 times a day! Two of these meals included a snacks while out on game drive. In the morning, after about 2 hours of game drive, we'd pull over & set up a picnic of coffee, tea, juice, smoothies, yogurt, cereal, muffins, pastries, fruit and much more.
The afternoon snack was usually right around sunset & we'd be treated to a full bar and some more yummy treats.
After our first full day of game drives, we were treated to a surprised dinner in the bush.
They'd moved the whole kitchen & dining area out into the middle of the bush, and we dined by candlelight around a campfire.
Our guide stayed with us as we ate a family-style dinner, and she answered our questions about animals and growing up in Africa.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Going to see Aerosmith tonight!
