At the end of our 2nd morning game drive, we swung by the river to check out the hippos. It's a beautiful little area with some very interesting rocks that lead down to the river's edge and is surrounded by some lovely trees.
This is our view from when we first pulled up- those little bumps in the water are the hippos eyes sticking out.
They put on quite a show for us while we were there. It's still not exactly clear why they do this yawning behavior, but it was very neat!
In case you were wondering, there is NO SWIMMING allowed in these parts ;)
The water is pretty deep in some parts of the river, and the hippos will float and bob with their back legs on a rock and their head surfacing for water.
We enjoyed sitting out by the peaceful river and warming up in the early morning sun.
As we drove back along a road by the river, we caught sight of a mother and baby hippo across the river.
H actually spotted them as we were driving pretty fast. On game drive, everybody has their eyes peeled for an animal & it's fun when you are the one to spot something.
It was neat to see them out of the water & check out how really HUGE they are and see those birds getting a free ride.
Just strolling along looking for some food.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Lazy Saturday today & then my company's 25th anniversary party tonight.

This reminds me of that game I always wanted when I was a kid, but never got ... "Hungry Hungry Hippos".
