Last Saturday we caught a *very* early flight to Detroit, and then we headed straight to the Motown Museum. H grew up listening to lots of Motown music, and I was surprised by the number of songs I recognized.
We weren't allowed to take any photos inside, but I did snap this one of him dancing and singing "My Girl" in the actual converted garage studio where thousands of hit songs were recorded in the 1950's & 1960's. We had an awesome guide that made the tour so interesting and educational. The history of people and events behind the Motown Records recording label are pretty amazing, but make sure you go on a guided tour to fully appreciate the rich, colorful history of the music icon.
Next, we headed off to Greektown to have a late lunch. My blog friend Sarah, a former Detroit resident, suggested New Hellas and we had a great fabulous lunch there. The food was great and the waiters were pretty funny.
There was a big casino in Greektown, as well as several Greek restaurants that I would have loved to try if we had more time there. It was very cold, and starting to rain, so we didn't walk around too much, but there were some beautiful churches in the area.
My husband had never seen geese before, and was just amazed that they were hanging out around buildings and at parks. He wanted to get a closer look at them on Bella Isle Park, but you can tell they weren't interested in getting a closer look at him.
I just wanted to throw this picture in because it's always funny when you get an unusual rental car. Yea, we were total tourists driving around Detroit in a pastel green mini-SUV. We never had trouble finding our car or remember where we parked. It became a running joke.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: We had an awesome crawfish boil and party yesterday for our birthdays with lots of friends and family.
