We finally made it to The Hermitage Hotel at Aoraki / Mt. Cook National Park. This was the view from our room- you can supposedly see Mt. Cook when those clouds aren't there.
We lucked out and got a room on the end, which had side windows. I can't remember if this was a sunset or a sunrise view, but it was gorgeous.
We did get a few peeks of the glacier when the clouds would briefly lift.
It was stunning to see the ice clinging to the side of the steep mountain.
The view across the valley to the facing mountains magnificent- I think it is so neat that you have all this flat land & then STRAIGHT up!
You could catch glimpses of the bright blue glaciers though the rain and haze.
There really aren't many hotels in this area to stay at & this one is quite pricey, but I think it is well worth the breathtaking views- especially when the weather is clear.
The small solace to the crummy weather was this great rainbow that shone down on the valley.
We grabbed a bottle of wine & some evening snacks to enjoy in front of our huge panoramic window for the evening.
And the sun got brighter and the rainbow more brilliant! This was our first taste of the pure New Zealand, the bigger and more beautiful than life New Zealand, and it was just stunning.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Picked the color for my office- going back to pink!
