Houston Skate Park

Our walk down the Buffalo Bayou trail ended (before we turned around) at the Joe Jamail Skate Park just outside downtown. The skatepark has been open less than a year, and we'd always wanted to stop by and check it out.

It was great to see so many kids there (even a few gals and "old peeps") being outside on a beautiful day. They would all line up to wait their turn to attempt some move.

There was no shortage of great photo opportunities to catch hang time.

There were a few people on Rollerblades and this kid kept trying this jump and I was able to get a good shot of his airtime.

It's in the shadow of downtown and provides spectacular views for those who want to watch the acrobatics or the skyline. There are lots of various "fixtures" and ledges and things to attempt stunts.

I'm wondering how long the marquee logo will appear on the AIG building. I'm already hearing rumblings about various divisions changing their names.

I took tons of photos, got lots of great shots & felt too guilty to take photos of the massive wipe outs that I witnessed.

The second area is more like a pool (hole in the ground) with a shallow end and *very* deep end. It was neat to see the kids helping each other out and teaching each other the stunts. They were mostly well-behaved, not causing trouble and taking care of the park.

I'm glad to spend my tax dollars on community projects like this park for kids.

This little boy was precious with his knee and elbow pads. He barely looked old enough to be walking and was hysterical to watch. It was all he could do to stand on the board (while holding the ledge).

"Do I have to let go?"

And we're off....

WIPE OUT!

He got right up and chased his board down and proceeded to go sit in the grass with his mom.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Spent a great day in Santa Barbara today- perfect weather, mountains & beach!
