For the second part of our city tour, we headed down to the fun and funky area of
La Boca, home of the world famous
Boca Juniors Soccer Club.
Since this was Peter's favorite team, we took a quick drive around the stadium (but I didn't get any good pictures of the giant blue and yellow stadium).
At first glance, the town has the feel of the street on the French Quarter lined with shops and restaurants. Apparently this also was the red-light district of Buenos Aires back in the big shipping days.
I got the feeling this house was owned by a Brazilian ;)
Legend has it that the houses are painted in a variety of colors because they were originally constructed from left-over pieces of timber off of the boats.
The area is now a tourist stop and home to many local artists. Next we headed towards the San Telmo area- full of antiques dealers and artists. We stopped to check out a local market and a beautiful church.
Our final stop of the day was La Recoleta Cemetary in the swanky Recoleta area. All of the big name politicians and citizens were buried in family mausoleums over the past 100 years.
The variety, size, shape, material and detail involved in the numerous monuments was very interesting. Each one had it's own personality and character.
It was interesting, if not a tad creepy wandering through the very narrow alleys (the ally below is twice as wide as the regular walking area) and wondering at what point did a cemetery become a tourist attraction? Oh yea- when
Evita was buried here.
After our tour ended, Peter directed us to Uru Leather & Sweaters, where H was measured for a custom leather jacket. I picked up a cheap cashmere sweater and they dropped off his jacket later that afternoon! We grabbed lunch at a local Italian joint and then headed back to the hotel for a nap before our big Tango night.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Tomorrow is Friday! (can you tell I'm having a hard time re-adjusting to work??)

That has to be the most colorful neighborhood I've ever seen!
What was your big tango night? Do you tango? We've been taking dance lessons for years but just picked up tango a few months ago so we're still beginners at that one.
