Night at the Museum

About a week and a half ago, the Houston Flickr group had an awesome meet-up at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It's my absolute favorite museum in town with all it's fun science stuff. I remember lots of trips when I was a kid, several recent Mixer's & Elixers on Friday nights and some fun IMAX movies.

They opened up the museum after-hours especially for our group of photography enthusiasts, and we could also bring flashes and tripods (which normally are not allowed). I had so much fun capturing all the interesting stuff, especially the dinosaurs.

The main exhibit area has 3 huge skeletons which tower over all the visitors that enter.

How fun is this? Reminds me of a scene from Jurassic Park.

There is also some really neat exhibits on the landscape and wildlife of Texas, the technology behind the Oil Industry, an amazing collection of rocks and gems, a huge variety of shells and animals, and many more things.

In each of the stairwell areas, there is a gigantic mural mural painted on the wall.

Sort of reminds me of Wyland.

I've had a fascination with Fibonacci Sequence since learning about it in Junior High. I'm especially impressed with all the places it shows up in nature, including in shells. I'm truly a math & science nerd like that.

I've got several more posts lined up over the next week with some very fun stuff from the museum.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: A big volleyball game for my sister tonight.

Wow! These are amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your photos here - I really enjoyed reading about your experience at the Museum, though I am sorry I did not get to meet you that night! I especially liked your B&W of the T. rex/Edmontosaurus chase scene. :) I hope you'll consider sharing these in the HMNS pool on Flickr as well. Thanks again! Erin

But did the dinosaur skeletons come to life and play fetch? ;-)

How fun! We should definitely check out the museum--we haven't been in years!
