The girls play and growl and bark a LOT at each other. I assume this is mostly normal. Is there some line or threshold where I should stop the play and worry they are *fighting*?

They are too funny playing with each other. I know when our Anna and Charlie play together...they play super rough. A lot of growling and rough-housing. But they are just playing...tails wagging is a huge sign :) Sometimes though if one gets pinned to long or whatever it can escalate...doesn't happen often. If it gets too loud or escalates I just tell them "Too much" and they back off. They, and you, will learn what is "too much."
They are so adorable! This is all WONDERFUL play! You'll know when it gets above acceptable. All the "body language" will be visible and your gut will be "uh oh". Just choose a keyword to split them up. We use "BREAK" Our two know when they hear that they go away from each other. Even works when they are playing too rough with other dogs at the park. We say "break" and they go play with another dog.
