Grand Taiko Festival

Two weekends ago we headed downtown to watch the Grand Taiko Festival at Miller Outdoor Theater. First the local high school group was performing as we arrived.

The show was to start at 7:30 and we arrive a little after 7:15 and the place was packed!

All the way to the top of the hill. I *NOW* know to sit on the right side, for those people without chairs ;)

Not only was the drumming incredible to hear, the motion and dance of the drummers was memorizing to watch.

The rest of the show was by the Kaminari Taiko dancers & that had a few more decorations.

There were also these acrobats. I'm not sure what to call them, but they performed a rhythmic routine on these long pieces of fabric.

Back to the drummers- my view was severely blocked, but we enjoyed listening and watching what we could see through the field of heads.

These ladies on the fabric were very impressive....

Finally, they had a lady in traditional gear that did a very slow dance. I'm pretty sure this group performs every year at Miller, and I'd highly recommend taking a picnic out there for a nice relaxing evening.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Headed to Austin today for ACL Fest! I've been waiting 7 years to go :)
