Ike Update

Wow- Galveston is already a disaster because the surge waters have risen so quickly. The reports are that only about half of the people evacuated, thinking it was only a Category 2 storm. However, this is a massive storm surge, that is more typically associated with a category 5 hurricane.

I'm nervous that this might be a much more disastrous storm than people anticipated. The national guard and various other groups have been doing rescues all day long, some quite spectacular.

Seeing this storm from above is just amazing. I can't believe that it's almost as big as the entire Gulf of Mexico. Early this morning, we were watching flood waters rise in Alabama and Louisiana on TV.

Nothing exciting going on at my house yet. We're hoping to get our grilling done before the first feeder bands make it up to our area. I think the eye will pass near us some time around 7 AM, but I suspect we might lose power much before then. We'll be monitoring the situation online and on TV until we lose power tonight, then hopefully we can fall asleep before it gets too hot to sleep.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Getting to spend a bonus day with hubby at home today & tomorrow!
