Waiting on Ike

Well, having today off work, I was able to sleep in this morning before my long Friday run. There was a nice breeze & a beautiful sunrise, but I'll spend the rest of the day getting prepared to face the storm and face a few possible days without power.

I haven't seen massive evacuations along the coast, but I hope they have all moved to safer grounds. Gas stations in some areas are out of gas, and there was pretty slim pickings for food and water at the store this morning.

Ike is slowly churning our way. Although only a strong category 2, it's the anticipated 20' storm surge that is the real danger to many coastal areas. The tidal surge is already underway, and there is already a few feet of water on some of the barrier islands.

I love this projected wind map. I'm a good ways from the coast at the red arrow, and they are predicting sustained winds of 75 mph, probably very early morning tomorrow. I've seen many homes in the neighborhood boarded up, and yards have been cleaned out.

We're off to visit the rent property, make a run to the bank and then go check on H's mom's house to make sure she's ready. She's planning on coming to spend the night with us, so it will be a hurricane party!
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: I think my family & friends are all in good shape & ready for the storm.

You probably don't have power today. Hope you came through unscathed!
