Aftermath

We're still without power at home, but luckily it's back to normal at work. They have restored power to all but 3 blocks in my neighborhood, so hopefully they will get to mine today. The lines for the gas station and grocery stores are still incredibly long.

The cool weather has brought much relief to the area, and this unseasonably cool weather is really nice.

The cleanup and restoration effort has been amazing. There are convoys of trucks converging on Houston to assist with power and supplies. I've been incredibly impressed with how well organized and smooth things are running for the most part.

The images coming out of Galveston are numbing though. The shot above of the seawall looks like a bomb went off. I can't even imagine how long it will take them to remove all the debris, restore essential services and just start the rebuilding process.

We tried to save our tree in the backyard yesterday, but didn't have strong enough winches or tie-out poles to secure the tree. It fell back over again last night. I'm trying to contact a tree service to professionally secure the tree, but I haven't had much luck finding one.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Loving this cool weather! I felt like I was camping out last night with my windows open.

That is so crazy and sad. I am so glad you all are ok though in Houston.

Man oh man ... and that's even with a storm surge that was lower than anticipated!

Unbelievable. I heard that there is all kinds of craziness down there, and now they are worried about disease from stagnant water, etc. Plus, with the alligators and tiger on the loose...I hope an pray for peace to come to the region, it is scary to think about when we still haven't recovered from Katrina.
