After the Storm

Whew! It's been a little over 48 hours since the giant Ike moved over the Greater Houston area, but I think things are going to be alright. Big, big mess, but not a disaster. I can speak for myself & the many friends and family around Houston. Those on the coastal areas might not be so lucky though. I've seen and heard very bad news from that party of the storm-raved region.

We lost a tree & I'm really, really hoping we can get it stood back upright again. We lost some fence. I think we can just re-right it and re-nail it. We lost power, and still don't have power back yet. I'm at work, only a few miles from my office with power and Internet. My parents, who practically live in the same neighborhood, had their power restored yesterday. I'm hoping we'll be back online today, but the cool front has brought much needed relief from the heat & humidity.

Stores, restaurants and gas stations are starting to open up for business again. The mailman just dropped off some mail. H is at work today too. There are still massive lines for food and gas at any store that happens to be open and have supplies. A few people are at my office with me, mostly cleaning up the damage we had here. We lost a few large windows, which resulted in a big, big wet & windy mess to clean up.

I'll hopefully return to more normal posting, and put some some more thoughts about my hurricane experience once I have power at home. I've cancelled my trip to Banff, the play with my camera in the Canadian Rockies. Until then, check out my favorite big photo blog for some gut-wrenching photos from Hurricane Ike.
GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: We're safe & sound, no worse for the storm.
