Football in Buenos Aires

We were also interested in attending a football game in Buenos Aires. We didn't do much research and sort of got taken like the typical tourist. There wasn't a big game between the Boca Juniors at their stadium or the other big team River Plate. So we decided we'd go to a "neighborhood game" with a smaller team- Velez.

The stadium was quite impressive for a minor league team. We paid about $50 USD each for $3 tickets and a ride to the game. Our guide was pretty useless and couldn't answer many questions about teams or the sport. Oh well....live and learn.

We were so excited to be there & we met some other awesome travelers who were with us. There was a warm up match and then the big game finally kicked off.

The banners go up before game, but a large (and loud) portion of the crowd marches in together chanting and cheering.

I thought this guy selling beer was just awesome- I like the carry-a-keg!

The fans- true to their reputation, were loud and rowdy the.entire.time! Didn't matter if the other team scored or if there was a penalty- they just got louder. The bounced and yelled and chanted and drummed. It was amazing. We sat in the normal section and the fans were enthusiastic, but not nuts like the guys in the video. I loved seeing all the old people at the game, the kids, the women. It was really like a community affair.

GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY: Our tax refund came back today!
